Launching Landmark in Jamaica

My name is Beverly Manley. I am a former first lady of Jamaica, a political scientist, a consultant, lecturer, and broadcaster. I currently co-host a daily radio show called “The Breakfast Club,” where we call experts from all over the world to share in discussions with us. For example, we have had many distinguished guests – prime ministers, the president of the World Bank, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and a host of other people. We discuss everything – national, regional, and international issues. We are the flagship morning programme in Jamaica, and we have been doing this show for 10 years.

I was a busy woman and I always felt my life was going along just fine. Since my participation in the Landmark programmes, however, I am leading an extraordinary life. Donna Duncan-Scott, a close colleague and friend, had been trying to introduce me to The Landmark Forum for at least one year. My position was that I didn’t feel the need to do any transformational stuff. I am still not sure why I did it. I had an instinct about it, I guess. As I sat there, I began to get insights almost immediately into how I lived my life and the constraints I had placed upon myself that had prevented me from living life fully.

The thing that struck me the most was the stories that I was living inside of, the stories and the conversations in my head (what I was saying to me about me) that prevented me from achieving fulfillment in my life. Those stories are now history. I am now participating with people at a level and with projects that I never thought possible.

Even my son has now done The Landmark Forum. Can you imagine knowing about The Landmark Forum when you are 20 years old? What a life he’s got ahead of him. His entire life changed. This is reflected in his grades, how he sees himself as a human being, how he sees himself in relation to his colleagues and friends, and his sense of himself. To do the Landmark programme for yourself is one thing, but to have this gift available to your children and to see the transformation that takes place in their lives is something that I will be thankful for, forever.

In conjunction with Mollie Partridge and a team of great people here, I am playing a leading role in having The Landmark Forum here in Jamaica. At the recent Landmark Forum here, the participants brought hundreds and hundreds of guests – their family members and friends – to find out why the participants were so excited and deeply committed to having them there to learn about this programme.

My life continues to unfold in extraordinary ways. I look forward to having this powerful programme be available to the men and women in Jamaica. Thank you to Mollie Partridge, who is the Landmark Center Manager in Florida, and who is an extraordinary woman, mentor, and friend for her commitment to us, and for empowering us.
