Media Q & A

What is Landmark Education?
Incorporated in the United States in January 1991 and headquartered in San Francisco, Landmark Education is a global enterprise, recognized for its unique educational methodology, that delivers unprecedented results in a very short amount of time.

What does Landmark Education offer?
Landmark Education offers programs and curricula to individuals, organizations, communities, and institutions. The Landmark Forum, the foundation of Landmark's offerings, and subsequent courses for graduates cover a wide range of interests and topics relevant to everyday life.

How does The Landmark Forum work?
In contrast with standard educational methods, with Landmark's educational methodology you apply what you learn naturally. The Landmark method is more like coaching than teaching, more like dialogue than lecture, more like acquiring skills than remembering rules and information. See The Landmark Forum Syllabus.

What are benefits of The Landmark Forum?
The Landmark Forum is specifically designed to bring about positive and permanent shifts in the quality of your life and in the areas most important to you - your relationships, your family, your financial future, and your satisfaction at work. Find out more about the benefits of The Landmark Forum. In independent research, more than seven out of 10 people found The Landmark Forum to be one of the most rewarding experiences of their lives.

Who owns Landmark Education?
Landmark Education is an employee-owned company. The organization's executive team reports to a board of directors elected by the stockholders. The election of board members by stockholders is held annually.

What is Landmark Education's relationship with Werner Erhard?
In 1991 when Landmark Education was founded, Landmark acquired the rights to Werner Erhard's ideas, methodology, and the programs he had originally developed. In 1971, Werner Erhard introduced the idea of “transformation”.  A radical breakthrough when it was first introduced, it made “a clear distinction between change within an existing paradigm (no matter how significant) and creating entirely new paradigms.”  The notion of transformation is now recognized “as a powerful, practical, and relevant resource in contemporary society.”  Landmark respects and appreciates the significant difference Mr. Erhard's ideas have made and consults with him from time to time. Mr. Erhard has no position in the management of Landmark Education, and no ownership or other financial interest in Landmark Education.  Since 1991, Landmark Education has created new paradigms for learning, growth and change, and has developed what are acknowledged as one of the most effective personal training & development programs in the world today.

Is Landmark's education in the same family or genre as religion or therapy?
The content, techniques, procedures, and delivery of The Landmark Forum have been carefully examined by dozens of psychiatrists, psychologists, clergy members, and other professionals. They have concluded that Landmark's programs are not psychological, cult-like, religious, or sociological in nature. In fact, many of these professionals, following their research, fully endorsed Landmark and its programs. See expert opinions or independent research.

Why might there be misconceptions in the media about Landmark Education?
Although the majority of media coverage and independent research about Landmark Education is positive, sometimes misinformation is published. Misconceptions and misunderstandings about Landmark Education have been corrected or retracted - however, negative stories can sometimes be self-perpetuating. When something is new and attracts a lot of interest, people start to talk about it. They form opinions, often not based on facts or original research, but instead on what they have heard - sometimes second-, third-, and even fourth-hand interpretations. As a result, inaccurate negative stories can take on lives of their own and are sometimes published. For the most part, however, press about Landmark Education has been substantive and positive.
