Company History: Landmark Education

Landmark Education is a worldwide leader in the training and development industry. The company provides seminars and courses that are the product of extensive research and development in individual and organizational effectiveness. Landmark has more than 54 offices throughout 20 countries*. With programs offered in both the public and private sectors+, Landmark is one of the largest, most relevant, and diverse education companies in the world.

Beginnings
In January of 1991, Landmark Education was formed with a commitment to provide seminars and courses that made a profound difference in the quality of people's lives and work. Landmark began with a dynamic group of leaders, a powerful operations team, and a body of intellectual properties originally developed by Werner Erhard**.

Landmark set out to become a thriving international enterprise, taking numerous initiatives including the formation of a top-notch Research and Design Team, and created what would become Landmark Education's core programs. These programs would continue to evolve over the next 16 years.

A Global Brand Name
By the middle of the 1990s, Landmark expanded its programming to offer dozens of courses, workshops, and seminars.

Landmark Education designed the Self-Expression and Leadership Program, where participants are empowered to provide leadership in their communities and to create projects that make a difference. To date, over 30,000 community projects have been created from participants in this course.

Given that Landmark's programs dramatically improved interpersonal and organizational effectiveness, major corporations became some of Landmark's most enthusiastic advocates. Landmark founded a wholly owned subsidiary, Vanto Group, to serve its corporate customers. By the late `90s, Vanto Group was working with a range of organizations worldwide, from emerging enterprises to Fortune 100 companies, offering programs that impact planning, implementation, and strategic vision.

From its beginning in 1991 to the present day Landmark Education has continued to fulfill its commitment to contribute to individuals and organizations. Landmark's curriculum continues to evolve, and with each refinement, Landmark elevates the quality and positive impact of its programs. To date, over 1,200,000 people have participated in Landmark's programs.

Landmark Education Today
In 2009, as the Company celebrated its 17-year anniversary, the corporation's revenues reached approximately $77 million. Landmark Education, incorporated in Delaware and headquartered in San Francisco, is organized to invest its surpluses into the future development of its programs and initiatives. The Company is employee owned. The organization's management reports to a Board of Directors.

Landmark's general curriculum has significantly evolved since its beginning in 1991. Landmark recently completed a comprehensive redesign and elevation of its programs. This ongoing commitment to improvement has kept Landmark's programs at the leading edge of the personal and professional development field. Innovative, effective, and immediately relevant, the programs challenge conventional perspectives and decision-making patterns, providing new tools for effecting significant change.

Today, Landmark offers programs in more than 110 cities in nations around the world such as the United States, Japan, Israel, India, Australia, South Africa, the Philippines, Mexico, and most European countries. More than 200,000 people participate in Landmark's programs annually. The exceptional value and effectiveness of Landmark's programs have been the subject of numerous surveys and independent research by institutions, including: The Talent Foundation, Harris Interactive, Harvard Business School, and by noted social scientist Daniel Yankelovich (DYG, Inc.). In fact, Yankelovich's research found that "over 90% of participants found specific, practical value," while "a large number found the Landmark Forum to be one of their lives' most rewarding experiences."

**Werner Erhard is widely regarded for the unique and lasting contribution that his ideas made in peoples' lives and organizations. While best known for creating the extremely popular est Training and later the original Forum, Mr. Erhard's work has spread over a large scope. Among many examples, he was recognized by Fortune Magazine for his contribution to corporate leadership and strategic thinking and he is widely regarded as the pioneer of the idea and practice of employee empowerment. In 1988, Mr. Erhard received the Mahatma Gandhi Humanitarian Award for his international efforts to end starvation and for drawing public awareness to the value of integrity in every day life.
